About Wellington College
Wellington College is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school, founded in 1859 as a Christian foundation that warmly welcomes pupils of all faiths. The school is governed by a board of governors who also serve as trustees of the Wellington College charity. In the sixth form, pupils can choose between A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, both of which are equally popular. The school aims to inspire its pupils and encourage a genuinely intellectual approach to learning. It seeks to develop independent thinkers who are valued as individuals and who can engage meaningfully with their local, national and international communities. Wellington is academically selective, with an ability profile that is above average. Pupils come from a range of social backgrounds, mostly from the United Kingdom, with a small number of boarders from Asia, America and the rest of Europe. The school has identified a number of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia, dyspraxia and attention deficit, all of whom receive additional specialist support. A number of pupils are bilingual or have English as an additional language, and all are able to access the curriculum fully.
