About The King's School in Macclesfield
The King's School in Macclesfield is a co-educational day school welcoming pupils aged 3 to 18. Founded in 1502, the school has deep roots in the heart of Macclesfield and holds the distinction of being the oldest school in the country with links to the Merchant Taylors' Company. In 2020, the school moved to a new single site in a rural setting just outside the town, bringing all year groups together in one place with every class fully co-educational. The school is an incorporated charity overseen by a board of governors. It seeks to equip young people with the character and skills needed to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world, encouraging pupils to aspire, work hard, and develop enquiring minds. A strong emphasis is placed on fostering a friendly and caring community, and on nurturing responsible citizens who contribute to society through leadership and service. Pupils come from a range of professional and business families and live within approximately a 20-mile radius of the school. The school supports a variety of learning needs, including those of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, and those for whom English is an additional language. The curriculum is also adapted to meet the needs of the school's most able pupils.
