About Lyonsdown School

Lyonsdown School is a co-educational day school located in Barnet in north London, educating girls from the ages of three to eleven and boys from the ages of three to seven. Founded in 1906, the school became a charitable trust administered by a board of governors in 1973, and has a long-standing place in its local community. The school aims to provide a happy and secure environment where children can thrive and achieve personal excellence through a broad curriculum and personalised learning. It seeks to help pupils discover their abilities, develop independent thinking, and secure places in schools best suited to their needs. The school strives to be inclusive and respectful of the unique value of each individual, encouraging pupils to take part in the life of the school and the wider world as confident and caring individuals. Pupils come from families with professional and business backgrounds, reflecting the population of the surrounding area. The school identifies and supports pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, as well as those for whom English is an additional language, ensuring additional specialist help is available where needed. Pupils with particular talents in areas such as sport, music, art, drama and chess are given opportunities to take part in external competitions and festivals.
