About The Royal Hospital School

Royal Hospital School is an independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 11 to 18, set on a 200-acre site at Holbrook, near Ipswich. Founded in 1712 at Greenwich Hospital for the education of the sons of seafarers, the school moved to its current location in 1933. Girls were first admitted in 1991, and day pupils welcomed from 2006. The school is part of the Crown Charity of Greenwich Hospital. Most pupils are boarders, housed across eight boarding houses, though flexible boarding arrangements are also available. Day pupils are accommodated in three co-educational houses. The school's pupil community is wonderfully diverse, bringing together young people from around 30 nationalities and a wide range of backgrounds. The school aims to understand each pupil's individual strengths and to help them make the right choices during their formative years, so that their education becomes a foundation for future happiness and success. Support is available for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, for those who speak English as an additional language, and for those with exceptional gifts or talents. The school's vision is to provide a well-rounded education enriched by its distinctive maritime heritage.
