About Ipswich School

Ipswich School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school, founded in the 14th century. Having moved to its present site in 1852, the school became fully co-educational in 1997. It is a registered charity, governed by a board of directors who also oversee the associated Ipswich Preparatory School. The school has two mixed boarding houses for pupils aged between 13 and 18, and has recently welcomed a new sixth-form boarding house as well as the completion of the first phase of a new music school. The school aims to provide an environment where pupils feel safe and confident, with the opportunity to develop their personal interests, understand their place in the world, and grow a spirit of service within the community. It seeks to equip pupils with the skills to reach their full potential and enjoy success both at school and beyond. Most pupils come from professional families living within 20 miles of the school. The school supports a wide range of needs within its community, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, those for whom English is an additional language, and those identified as more able, including pupils with particular talents in drama, music and sport.
