About St Swithun's School
St Swithun's School is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18, situated one mile from the centre of Winchester. Founded in 1884 as Winchester High School, it was later renamed St Swithun's School and moved to its current site in 1932. The school is a registered charity, governed by a council of trustees, and has a linked junior school that forms part of the same charitable trust. The school welcomes both day pupils and boarders, with weekly and full boarding options available. Boarders are accommodated across six residential houses and come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, both within the UK and beyond. Day pupils are drawn largely from families within roughly a 45-minute drive of Winchester. St Swithun's aims to ensure that every girl leaves well-educated, courageous, compassionate, committed and self-confident, with a love of learning, a moral compass and a sense of humour. The school supports pupils with a range of needs, including those with special educational needs and disabilities and those for whom English is an additional language, whilst also providing further challenge for its more able pupils.
