About King Edward VI School (Southampton)
King Edward VI School is a co-educational independent day school in Southampton, founded in 1553. Since 1938 it has been based on its current site near the centre of the city. The school welcomes pupils from the age of eleven, drawn in roughly equal numbers from maintained primary and independent preparatory schools, and is organised into a senior school for pupils aged 11 to 16 and a sixth form for those aged 16 to 18. Entry is by academic ability. The school aims to nurture and support every pupil so that they flourish and exceed their own expectations in their learning, interests, relationships and emotional development. The goal is for pupils to grow into intellectually curious, resilient and confident young people, well prepared for their next steps. The school supports 132 pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, covering a wide variety of individual needs, and also provides additional support for pupils who speak English as an additional language. The curriculum is adapted for pupils identified as gifted and talented, helping to ensure that every pupil is appropriately challenged and cared for throughout their time at the school.
