About Heartwood House
Red Balloon Learning Centre – Northwest London is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged 11 to 17, located in a residential area of Harrow. It is a registered charity governed by local trustees and forms part of a group of four Red Balloon centres. The school opened in April 2008 and has recently received approval to extend its provision into a nearby building. The school aims to offer individual full-time recovery programmes that bring together education, personal development, and well-being. Its goal is to create a caring environment in which pupils can regain self-confidence, make academic progress, and move on to mainstream education, further education, or training. Pupils travel to the centre from throughout London and come from a wide range of backgrounds. All pupils are identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities, which include dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and autistic spectrum disorder, and all hold an education, health and care plan. Two pupils receive specialist support for English as an additional language.
