About Alpha Preparatory School
Alpha Preparatory School is a co-educational day school welcoming pupils aged between three and eleven. Founded in 1895, the school occupies two adjacent Victorian houses in a residential area of Harrow, north London. In 1950 it became a non-profit company and charitable trust, with current parents able to become shareholders who elect a board of governors to oversee the school. The school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, with priority given to literacy, numeracy and science. It seeks to create a happy, stable and disciplined environment in which all children can learn and reach their full potential, both academically and socially. The school encourages a sense of responsibility and mutual respect, helps children take pride in their work and their environment, and aspires to uphold its Christian tradition whilst fostering understanding and respect for the beliefs of others. At the time of the most recent inspection, the school had 157 pupils on roll, drawn from families with a range of professional and business backgrounds in the local area. Pupils are predominantly of Asian heritage, and the overall ability profile is above the national average, with a wide spread of abilities represented. The school supports pupils with special educational needs and those for whom English is an additional language, and makes provision for more able pupils as well as those with particular talents in sport, drama, music and art.
