About Harrow School

Harrow School is an independent full boarding school for boys aged 13 to 18, with a history stretching back to its founding by royal charter in 1572 and operating as a school since 1615. The school is governed by a Royal Charter Corporation, a charitable trust, and is part of a wider group that includes another nearby independent school. On joining, every boy becomes a member of one of twelve all-age boarding houses, which form the heart of school life. The school believes that a pupil's success is best measured not by grades alone, but by the influence he goes on to have in the world. Harrow aims to develop scholarship, opportunity and character, encouraging intellectual curiosity, independent thought and a genuine willingness to learn, lead and serve. Boys come from a range of professional and business family backgrounds across the UK, with a smaller number from overseas. The school supports pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as those for whom English is an additional language. A number of boys hold scholarships recognising potential and talent in academic subjects, sport and music.
