About Cothill

Cothill House is an independent full-time boarding school for boys, founded in 1870 and located near Abingdon. The school is part of the Prep Schools Trust, supported by a local advisory group. Pupils are accommodated across two boarding houses, with Main House welcoming boys in Years 4 to 7 and Bowlers providing a home for those in Year 8. The school aims to treat every pupil as an individual, encouraging them to recognise their strengths and develop independence. It seeks to foster leadership, teamwork, personal responsibility, kindness, truthfulness and respect for others, while nurturing a genuine love of learning through a broad and interesting curriculum. The school community is culturally diverse, with pupils of 19 nationalities represented. The vast majority of families are based in the United Kingdom, though approximately a quarter of pupils come from overseas. The school provides additional specialist support for a number of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and offers additional help to some of those for whom English is an additional language.
