About Bristol Grammar School
Bristol Grammar School is an independent co-educational day school situated in the heart of Bristol. Founded in 1532 for the sons of Bristol merchants and tradesmen, the school moved to its current site in 1879. The preparatory school opened in 1900, and the school became fully co-educational in 1980. It is divided into four sections: infants, including an Early Years Foundation Stage setting; juniors; seniors; and sixth form. The school is a registered charity, with trustees serving as governors. The school aims to provide a rounded education to those who might benefit from it, regardless of background or financial means. Its values of kindness, integrity and rigour were developed in conversation with pupils, reflecting what they themselves want to stand for. The school welcomes a diverse mix of pupils from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, with a tenth receiving bursary support. Around a fifth of pupils are identified as more able and take part in a scholars' programme. The school also supports 244 pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and 68 pupils for whom English is an additional language, ensuring that a range of needs are recognised and catered for across the school community.
