About Bedales School
Bedales School was founded in 1893 and is made up of three schools sharing a 120-acre site in the South Downs National Park in Hampshire. Dunannie welcomes children aged 3 to 8, including an Early Years Foundation Stage setting; Dunhurst caters for pupils aged 8 to 13; and Bedales serves pupils aged 13 to 18. Each school has its own head, with overall management sitting with the head of Bedales. The school is a registered charity and a limited company, governed by a board of directors and trustees. At the heart of Bedales is a commitment to educating head, hand and heart, guided by the motto work of each for weal of all. The school offers a progressive, liberal education that values openness, respect, and the freedom to think differently and learn from mistakes. Pupils are encouraged to become lifelong learners who can think both critically and creatively. Most pupils come from within the United Kingdom, with some boarders joining from overseas. The school is attentive to the needs of all its pupils, providing additional support for those with special educational needs or disabilities, as well as for those who speak English as an additional language. Enrichment and extension opportunities are made available to all, with the school encouraging every pupil to challenge themselves and reach their potential.
