About Abbey Gate College

Abbey Gate College is an independent co-educational day school on the outskirts of Chester, founded in 1977. It welcomes pupils from the age of four through to sixth form, with the infant and junior school based in Aldford and the senior school and sixth form at Saighton Grange, approximately two miles away. Both schools are overseen by a single board of governors. The school aims to provide a safe and caring community where pupils are encouraged to become the best they can be, developing the self-confidence to face a changing world with courage and compassion. Its focus rests on personal development and service to others. Pupils come from a diverse range of backgrounds, drawn mainly from Chester and the surrounding area. The school supports a number of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including those with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, as well as pupils with English as an additional language, who are supported by their classroom teachers. Those identified as the most able are offered a programme of specialist support and additional activities.
