About Wimbledon High School
Wimbledon High School is an independent day school for girls aged 4 to 18, founded in 1880 and part of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST). Still located on its original site, the school is governed by the GDST Council, with responsibility delegated to their executive board. The school's motto, 'Ex humilibus excelsa' — 'from small things, greatness' — captures its aim of building on a proud heritage while encouraging pupils to stride confidently into the future. The school places a strong emphasis on developing learning across different areas and fostering a creative approach to science and technology through STEAM. A dedicated research and experimental centre, the STEAM Room, has been created with the support of resident scientists, and a STEAM Tower is currently under construction. More than 200 pupils also take part in a community partnership programme on a weekly basis. Wimbledon High welcomes pupils with a range of needs and abilities. Thirty-four pupils have been identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities, all of whom receive additional specialist support. A significant proportion of pupils in both the junior and senior school are considered amongst the most able, and the school supports them through varied classroom approaches and an academic enrichment programme. The school describes its ethos simply as 'serious learning and serious fun'.

Lower school (years 7 and 8) and middle school (years 9 – 11) students should have their phones off all day and leave them in their lockers. Lower school students must put their phones in their Phone Away (clear Perspex) locker by morning registration until the end of the school day. Year 11 students only are allowed to use their phones in their common room, although this privilege can be removed if it is abused by a member or members of the year group. Sixth formers can have their phones on their person and are allowed to use them within designated sixth form spaces (Cafe Sixth, common and quiet rooms) only.
