About The Manchester Grammar School
The Manchester Grammar School is an independent day school for boys aged between 7 and 18, founded in 1515 by the Bishop of Exeter. Based in the centre of Manchester for many years, the school relocated to its current site two miles south of the city centre in 1930. The school operates as a private company limited by guarantee, acting as a corporate trustee for the charity. The school aims to educate boys regardless of their social, cultural, religious, and financial backgrounds, encouraging them to think for themselves and develop a lifelong love of learning. It seeks to create an environment in which every boy feels valued as an individual and is challenged to fulfil his potential, while also developing teamwork, leadership skills, and a sense of service to their communities. Pupils come from a broad range of socio-economic, cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds, attending from across the north west of England. The school has identified a number of pupils with SEND, including conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, autistic spectrum disorder, and hearing and visual impairments, with specialist support available for those who need it. English is an additional language for a significant number of pupils, and all pupils have access to provision suitable for the very able.
