About The Beacon School

The Beacon School is an independent day preparatory school for boys, set in the village of Chesham Bois on the outskirts of Amersham. Founded in 1933, the school became an educational trust in 1972 and is overseen by a governing body. More recently, the school has opened a Nursery and covered its open-air swimming pool. The school aims to encourage pupils to behave with honesty and demonstrate strong moral principles, showing respect, care, empathy and understanding for others. It strives to ensure pupils value intellectual, sporting and creative achievement, and works to promote well-being, both physical and emotional, alongside the aspiration and courage to take risks. Pupils come from a range of backgrounds and nationalities, mostly from families living within a 15-mile radius of the school. The school has identified pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, a number of whom receive additional support, and also supports pupils for whom English is an additional language through small group teaching and classroom teacher support. The needs of more able pupils are met through the curriculum and extra-curricular provision.
