About Taunton School
Taunton School has a rich history, having been founded in 1847 and moved to its current site in 1870, before taking its present name in 1899. Originally established for non-conformist families, the school became fully co-educational in 1973 and now welcomes both boarders and day pupils aged between 13 and 19. The school is owned and governed by a charitable trust. Pupils come from a wide range of backgrounds, with day pupils largely from professional British families and boarders representing over 35 different nationalities. An adjacent site is home to Taunton School International, which offers one and two-year intensive GCSE courses for both international and British pupils. In the sixth form, students can choose from A levels, the International Baccalaureate, and a BTec Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences. Pupils identified as talented in sport receive specialist teaching and coaching within and beyond the curriculum, and strong support is in place for those with special educational needs and those for whom English is an additional language. At the heart of everything the school does is a commitment to the well-being of its pupils, alongside a desire to challenge, inspire, and nurture young people to succeed in a global community.
