About Swanbourne House School
Swanbourne House is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged between two and thirteen. Founded in 1920 as a boys' boarding school, it became co-educational during the 1970s, when day pupils were also admitted. The pre-preparatory section opened in 1983, and the school is run as a charitable trust administered by a board of governors. The school aims to provide a broad education with strong academic foundations, supporting pupils with a wide range of abilities and interests. It seeks to nurture the social, emotional, moral and spiritual well-being of every child within a stimulating and creative environment, and to prepare both day pupils and boarders for their next school and future lives. Strong relationships between teachers, pupils and parents are central to the school's approach, which is guided by a Christian pastoral ethos. Most pupils come from business and professional backgrounds and are from British families, with a small number coming from around ten different countries. Day pupils tend to live in the areas of Milton Keynes, Aylesbury or Leighton Buzzard. The school supports 54 pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia and dyspraxia, and provides additional specialist help for many of them. Eighteen pupils speak English as an additional language, and the curriculum is adapted for pupils identified as more able, as well as for those with particular talents in art, drama, music and sport.
