About St Winefride's RC Independent School
St Winefride's School is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged between three and eleven years. Founded in 1868 by the Sisters of Mercy, the school is located next to a Sisters of Mercy convent, to which it remains closely linked. It became a charitable trust in 1993 and is governed by a board of trustees. The school is organised into three stages: an Early Years Foundation Stage for children aged three to five, an infant section for pupils aged five to seven, and a junior section for pupils aged seven to eleven. The school aims to encourage its pupils to reach their potential through an education that emphasises kindness and mutual respect within a Christian context, fostering an awareness of the needs and beliefs of others so that pupils may grow into responsible members of the community. Pupils come from a wide local area, most being of white British heritage and from professional family backgrounds. The school identifies and supports pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, as well as those who are more able or talented, catering for their needs through challenge in lessons and extra-curricular activities.
