About Shrewsbury School
Shrewsbury School is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged between 13 and 18, situated on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. Founded in 1552 originally as a school for boys, it became fully co-educational following the admission of girls in 2008. The school is run as a charitable trust, overseen by a board of governors, and offers eleven boarding houses, three of which are for girls. The school aims to foster independent thinking and intellectual curiosity, encouraging pupils to develop into caring, thoughtful and confident members of society. It seeks to support every pupil in reaching their highest potential across academic, sporting, musical, theatrical and artistic pursuits. The school welcomes pupils from a range of backgrounds. Day pupils are mostly drawn from within a twenty-mile radius, while boarders come from across the UK and from 23 countries overseas. Support is available for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, those for whom English is an additional language, and those identified as more able, with provision ranging from specialist help to academic extension programmes and in-class support.
