About St Peter's Preparatory School
St Peter's Preparatory School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school welcoming pupils aged 3 to 13 years. Founded in 1882 as a boys' school, it moved to its current site in 1949 and began admitting girls in 1974. The nursery, catering for children aged 3 to 4, was established in 1995, with the lower and upper school serving pupils aged 5 to 9 and 10 to 13 respectively. Flexi-boarding is available from the age of 7. The school aims to encourage children to learn and work independently within a secure and supportive environment, helping each pupil to develop their full potential and progress to the next stage of their education as confident individuals. Recent additions to the curriculum include philosophy, mindfulness, drama, and computing as a separate subject in Years 7 and 8, and the school has also opened a new library and performing arts space. Most pupils come from British families living in Devon. The school supports pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, including dyslexia and visual and auditory processing difficulties, with specialist help available for those who need it. EAL support is also provided where required, and more able pupils benefit from enrichment and extension activities, alongside opportunities for those with particular talents in sport, drama, and music.
