About Exeter School
Exeter School is an independent co-educational day school set within 25 acres of land. Founded in 1633, the school has occupied its present site since 1880. A preparatory school has been on site since the early 1900s, and in 2000 this became Exeter Junior School. The school is a charitable trust overseen by a board of governors. The school aims to develop the academic, personal and physical potential of each pupil, upholding high standards of academic teaching and pastoral care. It seeks to provide a rich and varied extra-curricular programme, to promote high expectations of conduct within a friendly, tolerant and safe environment, and to encourage pupils to contribute to the wider community. Pupils come predominantly from professional families living within a 20-mile radius of the school. The school's own assessment indicates that the ability of pupils is above average. A number of pupils have special educational needs and/or disabilities, all of whom receive additional specialist help, and those for whom English is an additional language have their needs met by classroom teachers.
