St Mary's School is a Catholic day school for girls, founded by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The school is a registered charity led by a board of trustees and a governing body, who together oversee its strategic, financial, and educational direction. At its heart, the school aims to provide an education grounded in the Catholic faith, nurturing the spiritual and moral development of every pupil alongside strong academic achievement. The school is committed to creating a caring environment in which the dignity and worth of each child is recognised and celebrated. It seeks to value the unique contribution every pupil brings, and to build an active partnership between home, school, and the wider community. Pupils come predominantly from professional families, reflecting the varied ethnic backgrounds of the local area. The school supports pupils with a range of needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those for whom English is an additional language. More able pupils and those with particular talents are also catered for through an adjusted curriculum and additional activities.

The school does not permit phone use during the day. Year 6 may bring into school a phone if they self-dismiss at the end of the day; this will be locked away until required.
