About Sherborne Girls
Sherborne School for Girls is an independent boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18, situated on a 40-acre campus on the edge of Sherborne, a market town in Dorset. Founded in 1899 by the local MP, the school was established primarily for the sisters of boys at Sherborne School, and moved to its current site in 1903. It is a registered charity overseen by a Council of Governors, whose 19 members serve as trustees and proprietors. The current chairman is the great-nephew of the school's founder. The great majority of pupils are boarders, and all belong to one of seven houses. The school aims to provide a broad, academic, full-boarding education that develops the unique gifts of each girl. It aspires to foster a community founded on Christian values, encouraging every girl to grow as a whole person and to leave as an adaptable, intellectually enquiring, courageous and compassionate young woman. Most pupils come from professional and business family backgrounds in the south of England, with around one in ten coming from overseas, predominantly Hong Kong and China. The school offers both A levels and the International Baccalaureate, and has developed its facilities over the years to include a junior boarding house for younger pupils and a science centre, alongside a range of other improvements to its academic and wider provision.
