About Kingston Grammar School
Kingston Grammar School is a selective independent day school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18, located in the centre of Kingston-upon-Thames. Founded by royal charter in 1561 as a free grammar school, it has a long and distinguished history. The school became co-educational in 1978, the same year it assumed independent status, and is run as a registered charity whose trustees serve as governors. The school aims to foster an environment where pupils are encouraged to reach the highest academic aspirations and develop independent thought. Alongside its academic focus, it seeks to offer a rich and diverse range of co-curricular activities, whilst nurturing a culture of service, partnership, and personal integrity. Pupils come from business and professional family backgrounds across south-west London and the surrounding towns, with almost all living within 45 minutes of the school. The school has identified a number of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, some of whom receive specialist support for their learning.
