About King Edward VI High School for Girls
King Edward VI High School for Girls is an independent day school for girls aged 11 to 18, located close to a university in Birmingham. Founded in 1883, the school moved to its current site in 1938 and is governed by the charitable trust of The Schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham, which also oversees other local schools. The school shares some facilities with the neighbouring boys' school, which belongs to the same foundation, including a performing arts centre. Sixth-form pupils benefit from recently upgraded facilities that provide space for independent study, with access to laptops, as well as areas for socialising and relaxation. The school welcomes a wide range of pupils from varied ethnic and social backgrounds, reflecting the broader Birmingham community, and offers means-tested assisted places to around one in five pupils. It aims to provide a distinctive academic education, inspiring a genuine love of learning and encouraging pupils to pursue their ambitions with confidence.
