About Windermere School Pre-Prep & Prep School
Windermere School is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, overseen by the Windermere Educational Trust. Founded in 1863, the school is situated across three campuses near Windermere in the Lake District: one for pupils aged 11 to 18, a junior section for pupils aged 3 to 11, and an accredited water sports centre on Lake Windermere. Three boarding houses are located on the main site. The school was formerly known as St Anne's, and then Windermere St Anne's, until 2010. The school is a member of the Round Square schools and carries the motto Vincit qui se vincit, meaning one conquers, who conquers oneself. It aims to produce confident yet compassionate people, fostering global perspectives through its lakeside location, developing individual talents, and encouraging a democratic culture and a spirit of excellence. Pupils come from a range of backgrounds, with day pupils living within a 30-mile radius of the school and many boarders joining from overseas, representing a wide range of nationalities. The school does not select by ability and provides individual pathways for all pupils. Support is available for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, as well as for those for whom English is an additional language.
