About Lady Barn House School
Lady Barn House School is a co-educational day preparatory school for pupils aged 3 to 11, based in Cheadle and welcoming children from the surrounding towns. Founded in 1873 by educational pioneer W H Herford, the school is a charitable trust governed by a dedicated governing body. It is organised into four sections: early years, infants, lower juniors, and upper juniors. The school aims to develop children who are highly articulate, numerate, inquisitive, and knowledgeable, helping them grow into well-rounded, understanding citizens. At the heart of its approach is a curriculum that values each individual, celebrates differences, and encourages creativity, risk-taking, and ingenuity. Pupils come from a range of family and cultural backgrounds. The school identifies and supports those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, as well as those for whom English is an additional language, ensuring every child receives the help they need. More able pupils are also catered for through a thoughtfully adapted curriculum.
