About Hampstead Fine Arts College

Fine Arts College is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged 13 to 19, owned and governed by Dukes Education and supported by an advisory committee. The principal has been in post since the college's foundation in 1978 and is assisted by a headteacher. The college began as a sixth form college for arts and humanities, later admitting pupils in Years 10 and 11 during the 1990s, and now also welcomes pupils from age 13. The school is made up of a Lower School for ages 13 to 16 and an Upper School for ages 16 to 19, with most pupils entering in Year 12. The college aims to instil a love of learning and to help pupils gain entry to outstanding higher educational establishments. It believes that with the right encouragement, pupils flourish both academically and creatively, and it seeks to foster self-discipline and self-motivation as a bridge between school and university. Pupils come from professional and arts backgrounds, mostly from white British families living within a two-mile radius. The college identifies individual talent and offers a curriculum to suit, with free choice and combinations of examination courses. It supports pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, and social, emotional and mental health needs, with support provided by classroom teachers and a specialist teacher.
