About Grangewood Independent School
Grangewood Independent School is a co-educational school founded in 1979, set in a former church building in Forest Gate in the east end of London. It provides education for children from two to eleven years, and pupils make use of local facilities, including leisure centres and a nearby park, for physical pursuits. The school is owned by the Grangewood Educational Association, a registered charitable trust and company limited by guarantee, administered by a board of trustees who delegate certain responsibilities to a governing body. The school aims to establish a Christian community by teaching faith in God, growth in responsibility, and industry in academic, physical, creative and artistic pursuits, caring for pupils as individuals and providing a safe and comfortable environment in which all children are free to learn. Pupils in the early years live nearby, while older pupils come from surrounding boroughs and from a range of ethnic backgrounds. The school supports pupils with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities, as well as those for whom English is an additional language. The curriculum is also adapted for pupils identified as more able, and for those with special talents in areas such as sport, music, performing arts, leadership, art and reading.
