About Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School

Nestled in the Pennine hills of Rossendale, BRGS is one of only four remaining grammar schools in Lancashire and one of the most sought-after selective schools in the north of England. Part of the Star Academies trust since 2023, the school has a history stretching back to the 18th century Wikipedia and a strong tradition of sending pupils to Russell Group and Oxbridge universities. The entire intake of 180 pupils per year is selected on academic ability, with preference given to children from primary schools in Bacup, Rawtenstall and the surrounding Rossendale area. Brgs Sport, reading and enrichment sit alongside academic ambition here — this is a school with real community roots.
